Villa Franca is one of the poorest areas of Tegucigalpa. Some activities that people do for a living are: selling tortillas, gathering recyclable material in the streets and dumpsters. There are several problems that derive from the poor living conditions, such as violence, gangs, diseases and abuse. 70% of the population is children and women. A typical meal in Villa Franca is tortillas and beans. This neighborhood does not have tap water, they have to buy it. Mision Caribe has worked with the Villa Franca area for 8 years. Today we envision expanding the church facilities in order to start a daycare in 2008. This would greatly help several mothers who can’t get a job because they don’t have anybody to help them take care of their children. We need financial support for the daycare. We plan to feed them a meal per day and provide them lots of love, instruction and psychological attention that are very much needed.
